Deep in the eastern Gailtal Alps — in Austria’s southwest Carinthia — lies the purest swimming lake anywhere in the Alps. At 930 meters above sea level, the 11.6-kilometer-long Weissensee Lake warms up to 24 degrees Celsius in summer, with crystal-clear water that is pure enough to drink and invites you to dive in, swim, and relax.

Pesticide-free for 50 years: At the Gralhof, you can also take a break from artificial pesticides and environmental toxins. This concept, just beginning to find favor elsewhere, has been a reality in the entire Weissensee Valley since the 1970s. We are very proud of this.
Surrounded by countless hiking and mountain bike trails of all levels of difficulty, the Weissensee Valley is an ideal place to vacation between the mountains and lake, whether you want to relax or are looking for more action.
Because of the eco-friendly way the area was developed, the EU honored the Weissensee with the “European Award for Tourism and the Environment”, and the region has now been christened “Weissensee Nature Park”.
Our guiding principle: “soft tourism” in an area largely left undisturbed.
